Yes. To San Antonio by train, and the rest of the way by bus. Mexico takes its buses seriously. More folks travel by by bus than by private car. They are luxurious and on time. And still reasonably priced. Plus. I have a senior citizen card which gives me half off, thus making it almost stealing.
And, if touring, it's still 60 miles a day. I would certainly look into getting a dedicated touring bike for such an adventure. I'm in communication with a tourer from England. He's currently approaching Villahermosa, and needs to replace all four cones, cassette and chain when he arrives here. I'm scoping out sources for such.
