photo caused me the recall the character of 1889 western town Mayor Sam Bolden played by actor John Mcgiver in the 1971 feature film "The Lawman." Story is mostly about "killin' ", both past and imminent. Mayor is forever out of the loop as do what is going on by virtue of hearing loss and has to keep asking "what'd he say?" as he comically holds up his ear trumpet. his difficulty provides the viewer with moments of welcome levity in what is otherwise a weighty subject.
