That is precisely the 'heated discussion' to which I was referring.
I honestly have no strong opinions on whether OPs should be allowed to delete their threads. I lean toward yes; but my general attitude is that if I start a thread, I have some kind of obligation to check in on it and keep it on track. Others might think that is a job solely for the mods.
