Agree. If we can’t change to a shorter layover, we plan to take a train to London and spend the day there.
We have never spent much time in Amsterdam but had an ugly layover there once. We used it to go into the city and see the Anne Frank house. Then had lunch at a favorite globally located noodle house chain, Wagamama , and then back to the airport. Worked great. Very worthwhile.
