@Alan Mackee - If I am not mistaken, no. As stated by @Kuromori its not just the spacing but the splines on the hub and the length of the hub. You would need a newer hub to go with the 9 speed cassette.

BTW: welcome to C&V.

Shimano 8 speed spacing is different from Campy. I have a DA 8V and could not get a Campy index 8V to work. I was fortunate in finding a spacer set for the DA cassette that allowed for Campy pull.
