Grilling beets is the best preparation method, I've found.
Get the coals hot, and make sure the grate is clean.
Slice the beets into about 1/2" thick slices.
About 2 minutes on each side, high heat.
Remove the beets after the second side is done, throw them in the trash, and eat the coals.
Made me laugh for sure.
Since you have a like/hate relationship with beets and I know you use the beet powder, have you tried this:
The black cherry taste is OK and mostly masks the beet flavor.
