I don't really mind dingy white tape though, especially if it's cotton. Makes a bike feel well-used and comfortable.
I use dawn dish soap and a nail brush, looks like new after.
I did buy 2 pairs of gloves from PBK last year with dye that's not color fast. Turns the bars I to a grey white fade.
