I wear lower end Shimano road shoes (don’t recall the model, but they were less than $100) in 48 wide and find them to be wide enough for my not excessively wide feet My issues with shoes usually involves blowing out the side of the toe box area. I even find their non-wide touring last shoes to be wide enough, as long as I am careful with sock choices (usually not an issue in warmer months). Not sure if this helps.
I do appreciate the insight. I don't have crazy wide but I want to be comfortable. I found Giro HV (wide) to be taller but not wider at all. So I am just cautious on wide.
I can return the Shimano if I try them no issue but hate to go through that game in the end if I don't have too.
