That is a good point. Removal and regreasing or carbon pasting of the seat post is also a maintenance task, that should be done on a schedule similar to the handle bars. One wouldn't want the seatpost to become corrosion bound to the frame.
Several weeks ago I loosened the clamp and the seatpost seemed stuck. Uh oh.
