c-note in the san berdoos with fellow forumite Tycho Brahe. started just after 6am near silverwood lake and the ca hwy 138/173 junction.
climbed the 138 into crestline, angled over to lake gregory, then up to ca hwy 18 and eastbound and down (and up) to rimforest, running springs, arrowbear
and the hamlet of big bear. rode around bbl (including dry baldwin lake) and back towards lake gregory/crestline. nice "little" ascent and descent-mostly in the shade
on a very warm day-of the 138 back to the start. an ongoing mechanical issue. a flat. multiple (like 7) prius operators unfamiliar with life/driving protocol(s). a burgeoning
wildfire that had to be calculated into the old rate/time/distance formula. a ridiculous lunchtime sando along with lukewarm beer(s). various passing (not prius) auto "offerings"
from those unfamiliar with the doppler effect. road kill. and a refurbed garmin 810 finally put out of its' misery by a ford f150...ride had pretty much everything except a wipeout.

pavement generally pretty good the entire time. south shore bbl during the summer is always dicey but so is the north shore. baldwin "lake" was quiet.
ca hwy 138 on both sides of old mill rd. between crestline and silverwood lake (mostly in the shade) may be the most underrated
road in all of socal...
