Basically development. The largest cities and most dense populations in the state are dispersed along the east coast. But there's also a noticeable environmental difference between the feel of the Atlantic coast as compared to the Gulf coast.
The Gulf coast has white sandy beaches with abundant native flora and fauna and dune from a Florida of yore. It more like something you would have seen had you visited the state hundreds or thousands of years ago. Or at least the closest you can get to that unspoiled experience.
Those two unique aspects are some of Florida's greatest asset. It also has the most coastline of any state in the contiguous U.S.
