7900 shifters will work as well with your 7800 as they do with anything. IMO that's not saying much. Do some searching and you might decide to try 6700 or 5700 instead.

7900 shifters aren’t great, but if you need hidden cables and you want to keep everything DA, that’s the only choice.
That being said, I wouldn’t do it. 7800 is functionally perfect.
