Seatposts shouldn't. If there is enough material to make flutes in, the wall was too thick to start with. Reducing weight by removing the part of the wall that bears more of the stress only works if you can't do maths.
It's for a Raleigh Sports, so flutes would be over the top. They look great even though their whole premise is flawed as you point out, but it just doesn't work for my specific build.
