As a young man I had a room mate who worked at a small air field as a mechanic and was also a qualified instructor. Now and then we rented a Piper Cherokee which cost us $20 per hour, $10 each. This of course was back in the bronze age. On a related note, a boyhood friend, someone I've known over 65 years and is now in his mid-80s, was learning to fly with his son-in-law who is a commercial pilot. I see him whenever I get back to my home town. He and others of the same "vintage" are the main reason I like to get back to that place. He is in great shape and works part time.
