I had the same problem with a 1971 MG Midget.
I worked in a gas station and we put a rebuilt engine in a customer's Volvo. The car was sitting on the corner of the lot waiting to be picked up when a car flew in off the street and demolished it. A friend had a Volvo wagon with a bad engine so I bought that car and bought the engine out of the wreck and put them together. Worst piece of crap I ever had.
If the brakes weren't leaking the clutch was. Electrical issues, noises, you name it. I sold it at a big loss and the guy I sold it to came back complaining about it.
