California has a program in place to sample produce at distribution centers and publishes
annual summaries. The program looks specifically for illegal residues, i.e. either use of pesticides not licensed on a particular crop or residues in excess of the allowable tolerance. Take home point is that violations for domestic produce are ~2% but can be much higher on imported produce.
