The Roam bikes have the same downtube protector (that the Toughroad uses) and I think it's the best of both worlds. The cables are protected and stay clean and dry like with most internally-routed cables, but you can also easily remove the protector to service or replace the cables without the use of special tools (often required with internal routing). Everything goes through that downtube protector: both shift cables and the hydraulic brake line.

I think it's a terrific approach to cable routing.

(That said, I have removed the splash "wings" from mine, and use just the main protector/cable tray component.)
