Ha, update this thread next year. I bet you'll do more than 2000 miles! (Although Minnesota must have a fairly short riding season.)

I think that riders doing more than 50 miles a week, 2 or more rides a week, get good riding fitness, and then start doing longer or more rides.

Doing group rides with a compatible paced group can help. It's motivation for me to make sure I'm riding regularly, so I can keep up. And having a set schedule is good, it gets me out the door. On top of that, the rides are more fun with others, and they know a lot of good routes that aren't obvious to a solo rider.
