I applied early to Northwestern to be back in Chicago and 30 minutes from my mom.
Her circle of friends/classmates mostly have that attitude too. Most of them have pushy parents, btw, but that attitude is common among bright kids and is sadly infectious.
Northwestern is a great school, btw. My mom's sister lives in Evanston. It's a great town. I probably spent (total over my first 18 years of life) about 6 months there. Too cold in winter IMO.
