I'm about ready to break out of my rut. The wife and I have been hiking a lot this month and when I got on the bike I couldn't believe how it helped increase my leg strength. I want to do a a few more hilly training rides and then give the GMR a try. I'm not expecting to make it to the top, but I have to see how far I can make it.
go for it! the first mile or so with the switchbacks is the steepest part but it’s not too daunting. the views are spectacular. try to hit it early because it can heat up rather quickly and there’s no shade except at the very beginning. you’ll likely say “what was i so worried about?” afterwards.
