You couldn't cut it at W St Lawrence at Mile ~40 and head straight east? That looks like it would cut off about 33 miles if you decided that you weren't feeling it, and would still leave you with a metric.
That could work. Only issue using that as a bailout is having the foresight to know that continuing on to Brodhead would be a bad idea
