So the high pressure is probably part of it. Construction of the tire is also a possible factor. If the road bike is carbon and the CX bike is aluminum, that would be significant as well.

i seemed to have goofed 75psi is max...on the tires.
may explain the poor riding experience.
60 -65 psi will be the next try.
