French threaded hub rebuild?

I found aN NOS 40 spoke Mavic rim for my touring build. Plan to run 40 rear and 36 front. 36 spoke hubs aren't hard to get. Unfortunately 40 spoke hubs are:
a) very rare
B) very expensive.
Found some used in UK for not bad money but since its private sellers, shipping is very very high.

Bertinjim has one - but it's French threaded. Next rabbit hole would be finding a wide range French freewheel which might be hard.

My question is:
Can a French threaded freewheel be stripped down and rebuilt using standard ISO cogs taken from readily available standard freewheels. This would allow a custom built wide range freewheel.

Is this possible???
