I have a 2008 Cannondale Synapse Sport 5 (Shimano 105, Aluminum frame) and a 2014 Cannondale Quick CX 3. So no, you are not alone.
I'm the original owner on the Synapse and the second owner of the Quick CX. Both are great bikes for their intended purposes. I can ride the Synapse all day. And the Quick is fun as a casual rider for family rides, and as a utility/commuter.
