When did undergraduates lose the ability to write a proper email asking for a job? Most emails I get now begin with some variant of "I hope this finds you well." Why include that gratuitous piece of familiarity? What emotion is it supposed to engender in the stranger reading it? Then, of course, they sign it, "With warmest regards" or some ****.
Haha every now and then some candidate addresses me by my first name.
Internally my response is “What did you say?”
Externally I pretend it didn’t happen and continue to address him/her as Dr. YouHaveSoMuchToLearn
Wish I could say I took them out of contention for this but I can’t these days. They’re still in the running, plenty of time to work on manners if I take the pup on.
