I was able to get 700x32 Challenge Gravel Grinders on my 1983 Trek 412, but had to inflate them after installing in order to clear the brake pads. I was able to run 700c wheels in place of the OEM 27"ers by using DiaCompe BRS101 dual-pivots with the pads at the bottom of the slot.
