You've got far worse roads than Michigan then! Around here, the roads are generally OK for a compact car to go the 55mph speed limit on. Well, if the driver doesn't care about potholes. Riding my 29er on gravel roads here never made me conflicted. I put woodchippers on it, but still prefer a rigid bike with road geometry.
