I think that was me. At least, it may have been me. A few years ago, during the first royal wedding, I expressed frustration that Americans were obsessing over the marriage of a family that my ancestors fought and died to throw off the yoke of, and that's not the last time I said something like that. The French princess in The King said it best: "All monarchy is illegitimate".
Now, British people are often lovely.
If I had my way, the British royal family would trade their English and Scottish lands to Protestant residents of Northern Ireland resettling them in Britain and donate the Northern Ireland properties back to the Republic of Ireland, thereby reconstituting Ireland at only their own expense. Good plan, no?
