Different from my system but very similar. I have an iphone 6s, and I also said I might as well use it. I use the ridewithgps app and an Anker external battery lashed to the top tube. I can leave the screen on all day and run the app and other things. I have a Quad Lock case and a Quad Lock handlebar mount. In some ways, my setup is less convenient than a bike computer, but it costs less. And since I don't have speed sensors, the speed readout isn't as accurate.
