Long ride today through Northwestern Albemarle County with a brief dip into Greene County. I rode up Simmons Gap road which can get you onto Skyline Drive/Shenandoah National Park, but turned there and did some hard climbing and scary descending (one foot unclipped at points; ready to do the mtb downhill running dismount) down into Bacon Hollow. This followed the Roach River with some dream quality fresh pavement and gentle downhill.

Looking southwest, halfway up the Simmons Gap climb.

Lunch Stop - this is about 100m before the connector trail to Skyline Drive.

Cima Coppi for the day 2350 ft. There was a significant stretch 15-18% to get here. Today was the first time a rode it the whole way. Also first time I've ever ridden it with a 30t chain ring.

Descent into Bacon Hollow. This was one of the pitches where I had a foot unclipped

Snack stop along the Roach River. I was enjoying the water sounds and the scenery, enjoying a can of San Pellegrino, when a man about my age rides up on an ATV. He has a pinched angry face and is wearing those Oakley like sports sunglasses. I raise my can in a greeting as he rides up to me. By way of greeting me, he tells me he better not find my can laying on the ground and goes on at some length about the garbage he finds laying on the ground. I considered asking him what he would do if he found the can laying on the ground that didn't involve picking it up or leaving it there, but decided against that as it would lead to spending more time with the gent and I had better things to do. Without committing to any course of action involving said can, I told him not to worry and have a good day. He rode on, presumably to yell at his children or his dog. I struck this area of my list of places to consider if I decide to move out to the country. I crushed the can and tucked it back into my bag as I had planned before Mr Neighborhood Watch came along.

Final snack stop before the home stretch
