I think the best thing to do is get a bike and ride the heck out of it for a few years. Over the course of those years, you will begin wearing what suits your needs best, whether it's Carhartts or Lycra. I know that with my luck, once I started pointing and laughing at the guy decked out like Robin Williams, I'll get nailed by a semi!
