Product line differentiation.
The Checkpoint can clear massive tires, has lots of mounting points and is their "true" gravel bike.
The Domane sits with their triumvirate of "road" bikes: aero, climber and endurance; it's obviously no accident that these three bikes have naming anagrams (Madone, Emonda and Domane, respectively).
