When would a tourist stash gear? Want to go for a hike to see a waterfall or bag a peak? Don't like the looks of the parking area? Sounds like a good time/place to hide the bike and gear. I have done that, not often, but I have.
I just bought to pairs of digital camouflage bicycle panniers to use for precisely for when I want to stash the bike for an hour or so whilst I go to look at something in the woods. Just need to put black hockey tape over the reflective strips when I do so.
