Yeah. They would check the oil and other fluids and clean your windshield. When I was riding the Great Allegheny Passage last month I stayed in a town that had a c-store with gas pumps. Still had one of those old school hoses that rings a bell when you drive over it to get to the pumps. The pumps are self-serve but not "computerized." You have to pay inside. As a result, the workers need to know when someone drives up to the pump in case they are thinking about pumping and dashing.

New Jersey is, I believe, the only state that does not have self-serve gas. I always tip the attendant a couple of $$.
