The next series Tiagra, FD-4503 for triple was also still 9 speed and should be fine.
Another upgrade would be FD-6503, Ultegra level.
Newer 105 & Ultegra (x600) series are 10 speed. Since I don't use a triple crankset, not sure how a 10 speed FD would work on a 9 speed. Maybe someone who uses this combo will share their experiences.
MTB FD have different chain cage shape for optimum shifting for smaller chainrings (42t-46t) and not road rings (50t-53t).
