Wash shorts/bibs on the delicate cycle and use mesh wash bags. Never dry them in a dryer. All that lint in the lint trap used to be part of your clothes.
They won't go threadbare as fast.
I have a Frigidare Affinity front loading washer. On delicate, the best cycling clothes washer I have ever used. Spins clothes so dry cycling clothes are dry in hours just hung up. (Very short dry cycle for the rest of my clothes too. Less lint.)
Haven't used mesh bags. I"ll get some.
