I understood that narrow tyres are only faster because of aerodynamic resistance, because wide tyres have a similarly sized contact patch, only a shorter and wider one. They might even have less friction on imperfect surface because of their better cushioning. So if you don't go fast enough to make aero important, which the bike isn't specifically designed for anyway.
