I had a set of Michelin World Tours on my Schwinn LeTour commuter. They're the thickest 27 x 1 1/4 tires I've ever seen, both in width and profile. That combined with a more aggressive tread than average for 27 x 1 1/4 tires makes them a good tire for commuting and year round/bad weather use. The only thing is that they're a heavy, slow-rolling tire but if you're just using them for a casual commute and nothing high-speed then that won't be an issue.

Also, these are available super cheap. Would recommend, especially for the price.

Just make sure that when you put your bike on the back of your car, you don't accidentally have your tire in front of your tailpipe. I did that once and found out these tires are NOT exhaust-proof
