Just to run with that thought, a surprising number of bikes are stolen out of garages/sheds. When I'm not riding it my bike is kept in the garage with a lock on it.
That is why when I'm not using my bike I keep inside my locked and guarded residence which also has a 24/7 closed-circuit camera surveillance.
