The back story is that some years ago, the folks on Oliver Street, Belmont, petitioned for signage to prevent the street from being used as a cut-through route between Lake Street and Brighton Street. The vehicular traffic during rush hours was awful, and this fixed it. But some wise people figured bicycles weren't the problem, and so bicycles were excluded from the prohibition. Civilized traffic management.
