How can brake discs be effective with so little material for the pads to bite onto? Seems like all the edges of all those holes would chew up the pads pretty bad.

*edit* I was referring to the black BMC bike at the bottom of the previous page, where the brake discs look like structural building trusses with triangular holes all around, and very little material in between.
