I would suggest trying out flat bar and drop bars to see what suits you better.
I am pretty prejudiced against flat bars.....they work good for mountain biking, but are terrible ergonomically, the much maligned road bars provide better ergonomics and more positions. and if not road then some think like a north bar. Height will be more and issue than the bar. YMMV
