Advice on hydraulic brifter lever adjustment

Bought a new gravel bike last year, first time with hydraulic disc brakes. Brakes are Shimano BR4770 and levers are Shimano ST4720. Both Tiagra labelled. Love the braking, especially one finger braking from hoods, usually on long downhill gravel runs.

Minor problem is, upshift paddle presses against the back of my ring finger while braking, only on rear brake lever. I know there is an adjustment to move the lever further from handlebar, but I wonder two things:

1) If I adjust it so the brake lever is further away from bars, will it solve the problem, or will it still engage at the same point and just have more slop in it? 2) is there any chance moving the lever further out will introduce air into the brake by creating a temporary vacuum that air will leak into.

Not eager to do anything that will cause me to have to bleed brakes for the fist time; hoping to reserve that activity for next off-season. Thanks in advance for advice.
