It just comes down to solid versus metallic colors, and matte versus gloss finishes. The way that light reflects off of the paint may make it more or less likely to see imperfections in the finish, such as uneven applications, etc... A flat white reflects a lot of light so it would be hard to notice contours unless if they build up enough to cast shadows.
