I highly recommend giving laces a shot. I have two pair of the giro empires - a road set and a mtb set, both are awesome. Easily my favorite cycling shoe.

I hear ya! Both of my road bikes are slammed, my fixed has 20mm of spacers, and my mtb has 30mm. I usually give it a few months of riding when I get a new bike and adjust things accordingly. I do think a lot of it is for resale...others are afraid to make the cut. I'm sure others have fit issues, but that opus has about 6" of spacer stack, you could definitely cut that down a bit.
