I'm sorry, but I disagree. When the syllabus says that the test will be on Friday and when I announce at the outset of class, as I have for the last 3 classes, that the test will be on Friday, and then, at mid-way through the lecture I ask if there are any questions and a student who has been looking at his phone for most of the class time raises his hand say, "When is the test?", then he is asking a stupid question.
