We're running Donnelly (formerly Clement) Explor' USH (something like that) 35 mm tires on our tandem, where they barely fit in the rear. Although we're primarily on the bike path, I like the wider tires for the potholes and road construction in Northern Virginia and DC. If I could go wider, I would. We have the 120 TPI version of the tires, which seem to roll well without being fragile.
