I never wished pro cycling on my kid. It is something easy to get infatuated with, but rarely delivers. And if you do do well, a large group will brand you a cheater. The smart folks don't do it. I know some smart ones, fully capable, that don't do it. Rotten job unless your are in the top 1% of the pros.
