Apparently new mgmt at Amtrak put the kibosh to private train charters. That’s why there was no train last year, last minute substitution of busses. But without the train there’s no particular need to ride all those wonderful streets into Downtown San Diego. So OCW is changing it up, turn around at the top of Torrey Pines (still get your popsicle there), back to Carlsbad for the finish at the brewery. Also allows for a metric option too.

This is a bit of a euphemism though: This section is an approved bike route riding on a newly paved & swept surface that is 8 feet wide

Just because cyclists are allowed doesn't make it anything like what I would call a "bike route"... even though on Saturdays you can usually keep up with the cars.
