I'd hate to be the one that tells him, Shimano 9spd has less cable pull than Shimano 11spd.
I was aware Shimano broke backwards compatibility with 11s, but I remember thinking why did they bother, since the increase in cable pull was tiny, I thought. I was under the impression it was more about changing the overall geometry of the RD, with a different flavour of nonlinearity to the clicks.
